Nguồn gốc từ
German Schamane, from Russian шама́н, from шама̄н, сама̄н, from *samān. The Evenki word is possibly derived from the root ша- (to know); or else a loanword from ṣamāne (monk) or Chinese 沙門 (Buddhist monk), from samaṇa from Sanskrit श्रमण#Noun_2 (ascetic, monk, devotee), from श्रम (weariness, exhaustion; labor, toil; etc.), which would make this a sramana.
