German Phylogenie, coined by Ernst Haeckel in 1866, a neologism created as if borrowed from a Classic Greek word φυλογένεια, composed from Ancient Greek φῦλον (tribe, genus, species) + -γένεια (-geny (generation, production)), equivalent to phylo- + -geny.
