Perhaps akin to Old Norse kjapt (briskly; impetuously), kippa ("to snatch; pull; jerk" > Middle English kippen (to seize)), kipra (to wrinkle; draw tightly), Norwegian kjapp (fast; brisk), Dutch kippen (to seize; catch; grip).
